The last two photos I nicked from my friend's Facebook. :)
In total there was 109 rabbits. It's not a special number, I just didn't really keep count as I made them so that's how many I ended up with.
The answer to the question 'how did you get them to stand up?' is doubled sided sticky tape and rocks. I used at least 5 metres of doubled sided sticky tape and left my bag of nice, clean stones sitting on the kitchen tables so I had dig though the college flowers beds (I use that term very losely) to find stones (fun times). Arranging 100 bunnies is much more stressful and exhausting than it sounds. Don't try it. It took me about 5 hours, and since I had to leave early to catch a train I didn't have time for lunch. Worth it though. I can't wait for the Private View of the show. :)
This is an old dress of my Mum's that she had given to me to so I could cut it up for fabric. I decided to have a go at altering so I could wear it and it went really surprising well.
I took in every seam, and added some pin tucks and probably reduced it by 2 or 3 sizes.
The photos aren't great beacuse whenever I take photos on with the timer I can never seem to focus them, plus the lighting isn't great in my room, but you get the gist.
I love every bit of the fabric I own, particularly the stuff LaidOutInLavender sent me, so I am loath to throw any of it away, even if it is only a scrap a few inches across. Inspired by the fabulous blog, How About Orange I made fabric covered bulldog clips, which I am finding as functional as they are pretty. Very useful for getting piles of fabric and paper off my floor and neatly pinned to a wall.
I also made a very useful pin cushion arm/wrist band (idea stolen from Project Runway) out of a thin scrap of fabric, some felt, a vintage button, and some stuffing.
I have taken up embroidering on the bus partly because it's something to do, but also because I like to think it makes me a bit of a character. I started out on scraps of fabric , and now I started adding embroidered details to my rabbits.
My dog is in some the the photos because I couldn't get rid of him. I found adding the details made them more individual so I could no longer call them Finbar Jr.
Finbar is multiplying. 25 Finbars Jr.s at last count. Many more on the way. I thought you might like to see a little bit of the process.
Finbar is a wise and all knowing rabbit who comings many flavours, including original, minty fresh and pirate. I cut him out of lino and printed him onto paper and fabric. I have loads of these prints and lots of little stuffed Finbars too, so I'm going to put some on Etsy went I have time. If you'd like one just let me know.
Note pirate Finbar's sequined peg leg and daisy eye patch. My friend thinks they look like a couple, in which case the pink one could be Fionulla, but Finbar* is so manly he can wear pink and florals at the same time.
Bernard is stubborn and munchy (my friend came up with this and, and by this she means he munches stuff like cheetos noisily), but he enjoys the cherry blossoms. I made him out of lovely plaid fabric that LaidOutInLavender sent me and blue felt that I painted and machine stitched on to. Felt is the worst surface to paint onto ever, except knitted wool or maybe an actual sheep, but I think it turned out well.
Oh, and did I tell you I got into university (to study illustration)? I had my interview last Tuesday and I didn’t think it went that great, but whilst the interviewer was walking back to meet my mother so he could apologize to her (they made a mistake that kept me waiting around for over 45 minutes and she made a bit of a scene about it) he told me that he wanted me on the course and he hoped to see me this September. He checked that my mother didn’t live locally first, though.
Meet Tina the disco fox. I really need to think of a name for these creations. Anyway, you can expect lots more of them because this is what I'm doing for my college final major project. I had been really worried that I'd have to do something big and serious and impressive but instead I'm making '3D illustrations with textile techniques' which I think is going to be just about the most fun ever.
