Here are some bits and pieces from my illustration project on circuses. All my work had been been in my portfolio then was being marked but I've got it back now. I thought I'd share some of the stuff I do at college with you over the next week or so. These were made with coloured paper. foam stamps, paint and white ink.
Last night was the private view of the show and had a truely fantastic time. I took this as an opportunity to dress up and wore my little yellow dress. The exhibition was really great and everyone seemed to like my rabbits.
Now here's the weird bit. There is a Most Outstanding Student Award. And I was awarded it.
I was voted most oustanding student of the year.
Weird, huh?
I don't know what my prize is yet because I have to wait till December before I receive it.
The last two photos I nicked from my friend's Facebook. :)
In total there was 109 rabbits. It's not a special number, I just didn't really keep count as I made them so that's how many I ended up with.
The answer to the question 'how did you get them to stand up?' is doubled sided sticky tape and rocks. I used at least 5 metres of doubled sided sticky tape and left my bag of nice, clean stones sitting on the kitchen tables so I had dig though the college flowers beds (I use that term very losely) to find stones (fun times). Arranging 100 bunnies is much more stressful and exhausting than it sounds. Don't try it. It took me about 5 hours, and since I had to leave early to catch a train I didn't have time for lunch. Worth it though. I can't wait for the Private View of the show. :)
I have made my target of 100 stuffied bunnies. Hurrah. Actually I've made more that a hundred (not all are pictured). They've taken over my life a bit; I dream about cutting fabric into bunnie sized rectangles and I my carpet and duvet are covered in pins. I should say this is for a college project (my final major project infact), I'm not just nuts. A hundred of my rabbit will be displayed in a big exhibition all the student's work, with possibly some photography or animation too.
Inspired by this amazing book I decided to have a go at making pop ups. I started simple with a custard monster, a little more daring with my troupe of teal monster, and finally the white woods. I really love the shadows they create, so I've photographed those too.
Finbar is a wise and all knowing rabbit who comings many flavours, including original, minty fresh and pirate. I cut him out of lino and printed him onto paper and fabric. I have loads of these prints and lots of little stuffed Finbars too, so I'm going to put some on Etsy went I have time. If you'd like one just let me know.
Note pirate Finbar's sequined peg leg and daisy eye patch. My friend thinks they look like a couple, in which case the pink one could be Fionulla, but Finbar* is so manly he can wear pink and florals at the same time.
*Finbar and Fionulla are Irish names and means fair head or white hair, which is appropriate since their hair and features are white.
